Hearts Soccer Remains Unbeaten, Shoes Post Win

Effingham remained unbeaten in soccer this season with a 5-1 victory Tuesday over Mattoon.

Hearts Coach Logan Arney said, "In a game with five goals, we also had five assists, showing our teamwork and unselfish play. Tonight was a strong team win."

For Effingham, Maicol Sefton had three goals and an assist, Camilo Aden had a goal and an assist, Andrew Wagoner scored a goal, Sebastian Simoni had two assists, Jake Niebrugge had an assist, and Peter Rosen had three saves in goal.

Arney said, "We had moments of controlling the field with patience and moments of attacking with speed. I'm proud of how the tean is looking after five games and believe that if we keep playing together as a team, we will have a strong season."

Effingham plays host to Apollo foe Mt. Zion on Thursday evening.

Teutopolis picked up its first home win of the season, defeating Altamont 5-3. 

The first goal of the game for both teams were own goals. The rest of the Teutopolis goals were scored by Cooper Tegeler, Gavin Buening with two, and Simon Lee. Tegeler also had an assist. 

The Varsity Shoes are now 4-1 on the season.

The Shoes JV squad and Altamont played a shortened game, which ended in a 0-0 tie. The Teutopolis JV are now 1-3-2 on the season.

Teutopolis is back in action on Thursday at home against Mattoon; a 4:30pm varsity start, with JV to follow.
