EHS Soccer Squad Starts Season With Two Victories

CHARLESTON -- Effingham competed in the Red & Gold Soccer Tournament Saturday at Charleston.

The Hearts won over Altamont by a 5-2 score. Maicol Sefton scored three goals while Andrew Wagoner had a goal and one assist and Camilo Aden one goal. Adding assists were Sam Spicer and Jake Niebrugge. Peter Rosen had one save.

"Overall I'm very happy with the team's performance in our first game of the season," said EHS Coach Logan Arney. "We played well together, communicated effectively and stuck to our strategy going into the game. A great start to the season.'

The Hearts then handed Newton a 2-0 loss. Sefton had one goal and one assist while Wagoner had one goal. Sebastian Simoni had one assist. Rosen finished with four saves.

"Our first clean sheet of the year comes in the second game, which shows the potential and cohension of this team," said Coach Arney. "We made some adjustments to our approach and it paid off. The team understood and executed in the adjustments, which shows me that this team can go far as long as we continue to work hard and play together. Peter Rosen also got his first clean sheet on four saves, which is impressive coming into a new position as the keeper."
