St. Michael Advances To Class 7-1A State Championship Game

ASSUMPTION -- Sigel St. Michael claimed two victories Saturday at the Class 7-1A State Girls Basketball Tournament and will be playing for the state championship.
The Sharpshooters won their opener over Carrollton St. John, 36-14. St. Michael ripped out to a 12-2 opening quarter lead and led 20-3 at halftime.
Kaelyn Ordner led the way for the Sharpshooters with 10 points while Nora Bueker, Natalie Ballinger and Brooklyn Will scored eight each.
In the other opening round games, Peoria Limestone Walters defeated Lockport Taft, 16-10; Washington St. Patrick downed Cambridge, 26-16 and Ottawa Wallace won over Royal Prairieview Ogden, 28-24.
St. Michael then met Ottawa Wallace and was an easy, 44-14 winner.
The Sharpshooters ran out to a 10-2 opening quarter lead and led 33-10 at halftime.
Ordner again led the way for the Sharpshooters with 18 points while Will chipped in with 14.
St. Michael improved to 24-1 on the season.
Washington St. Patrick downed Peoria Limestone Walters, 39-6. St. Patrick remains unbeaten at 27-0.
St. Michael will meet St. Patrick at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for the state crown while Peoria Limestone Walters will take on Ottawa at 6 p.m. for third place.

Class 7-2A State Tournament
Altamont's stay in the Class 7-2A State Tournament came to a close in the opening contest.
Altamont fell to Liberty, 31-19. Liberty ran out to a 13-0 opening quarter lead and led 23-8 at halftime.
Altamont was led by Sophia Long with six points while Reagan Kuenstler added five.
Altamont ended the season with a 20-7 record.
In other first round games, Nokomis beat Riverdale Washington, 35-20; Heyworth won over Glasford Illini Bluffs, 26-14 and Havana edged Paris Crestwood, 22-20.
In the semifinals, Liberty defeated Nokomis, 36-19 and Havana won over Heyworth, 26-17.
Liberty will meet Havana Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for the state championship while Nokomis takes on Heyworth at 6 p.m. for third place.
