Altamont blanked Effingham St. Anthony 2-0 in high school soccer competition Tuesday.

"We played a really close game," said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. "Both teams had great opportunities. We had two great corner opportunities. The first half ended 0-0. Altamont scored its first goal from a corner with 25 minutes left and the second from a run with 10 left.

"Zack Hurren, a junior, led the defense and Evan Meyer, a junior, had a great sliding move after our keeper was defeated. Our keeper Pierce Verdeyen, a junior, had an amazing game with great saves that kept us competitive."
