Newton High School came calling and handed  Effingham a 5-1 loss in soccer competition Tuesday.

"We came out playing strong in the first half but lost momentum in the second half," said EHS Coach Logan Arney. "We are playing much better as a team. We just need to keep learning how to play our game all 80 minutes."

The Hearts' lone goal was by senior Roy Arellano. Junior Xander Marler had 11 saves.

Newton took a 1-0 lead in the first half before scoring four more goals in the second half to improve to 8-0-2 on the season.

"We look to put another win to our record this week with a game on Thursday against Charleston at home and travel to Taylorville Saturday," said Coach Arney.
