The Indians ripped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. Tucker Short scored the opening goal at 27:00. Isaac Crow then had back-to-back goals on assists both times by Noah Klimpel. Crow scored at 11:41 and again at 7:30.
Warrensburg-Latham tallied at 6:50 on a penalty kick then scored a second goal at 5:30 to pull within 3-2.
But Altamont/CHBC went into the half leading 4-2 after Jack Miller scored on a penalty kick at 4:30.
In the second half, it was all Altamont/CHBC. Short picked up another hat trick with two more goals. He scored at 10:37 on a penalty kick then tallied again at 2:20. Miller finished out the scoring with his second goal at 1:10.
Altamont is part of a co-op with Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and has now added Mid-America Prep School out of Herrick.
"It was a good bounce back win for us," said Altamont Coach Jeff Walton. "After a tough loss against Mattoon Friday, we made some adjustments to our formation and attack which paid off. I would have to give Noah Klimpel the game ball for his unselfish play all night, allowing us to win our fifth, going 5-1. He was playing for the name on the front not the back.
"I hold myself responsible for Friday. We were not prepared and not ready to take on what Mattoon would bring, but every sport has been that way, shortened schedules and seasons have made coaches squeeze a lot into a little time. So, Saturday's practice took on a different tone. It has been a long time since I have had these numbers and skill level to work different looks."
Altamont had 23 shots, 16 on goal. Brennyn Abendroth had five saves as the goalkeeper.
Warrensburg-Latham had nine shots, seven on goal and nine saves.
