Effingham St. Anthony High School blanked Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond in soccer action Tuesday.

Seniors Reilly Ashton and Jack Elder each scored two goals for the Bulldogs and had one assist and seven shots on goals.

Will Swingler, also a senior, had two assists while Ivan Dong, a sophomore, had a clean sheet and seven saves.

Seniors Grace Hakman and will Fonner were key defensive players on the watch.

In junior varsity play, Zach Chua scored his first goal from a Luke Swingler pass to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 win. Ivan Daiber had a clean sheet.

At Mattoon

Effingham and Mattoon played to a 2-2 tie in soccer action Tuesday.

"The game was very exciting," said EHS Coach Weston Peno. "We came out aggressive and played well. We kept the ball low, switched fields often and made plays down on our end for some exceptional looks on goal. Our defense was strong that night as well, not giving many opportunities to Mattoon for looks.

"There was a sluggish part we had where Mattoon controlled the ball near the end of the first half and this resulted in a lot of work to get momentum back. Ultimately, I am very proud of the way we played and it goes to show just how strong a team we can truly be."

Bryan Angel and Armando Angel had a goal each for the Hearts.

"Armando had some tremendous looks from outside the 18 and played exceptionally well," said Peno "This was true for most of the forwards. Brandon Duncan had 15 saves. He played intelligently and communicated well. I have seen a big improvement in how our team works together."

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis went on a goal-scoring frenzy against Newton and tallied a 6-0 victory Tuesday.

In the first half, the Wooden Shoes pushed ahead 3-1. Alessio Bucciarelli scored first at 36:16 on an assist by Alex Deters. Deters then tallied a goal at 28:05. Newton came back within 2-1 with a goal at 20:23. The Wooden Shoes then went ahead 3-1 with a goal by Noah Hemmen at 15:46.

In the second half, A. Deters scored his second goal at 25:39 and Derek Deters finished out with a goal at 15:06.

T-town moves to 13-3-1 on the season and is back in action at Breese Mater Dei Saturday morning with a junior varsity match to follow.

At Salem

Salem captured a 2-1 victory over Altamont Tuesday.

Salem led 1-0 after the first half then scored again in the second half. Altamont finally broke through as Sabashtin Thompson tallied a goal.
