Hearts Beat Mount Zion, Bulldogs Win in Soccer

Effingham players (in red) battle Mount Zion and capture a victory Thursday.

MOUNT ZION -- Effingham High School improved to 1-1 in the Apollo Conference with a 2-1 victory over Mount Zion in soccer action Thursday.

The Hearts opened with a goal by Victor Carrillo in the first half. Said Angel gave the assist at the 16 minute mark. Alex Pasley had three saves.

In the second half, Effingham's Angel tallied a goal at the 23 minute mark. Mount Zion pulled within 2-1 with a goal by Silva at the 30 minute mark.

Pasley had seven saves in the second half.

The Hearts are now 5-4 overall.

 

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony was victorious over Harrisburg by an 8-1 count Thursday.

Junior Jay Boatman and seniors Nick Goeckner and Alex Deters all had two goals each. Seniors Wyatt Lawrence and Jake Brandt each had a goal.

The Bulldogs improve to 5-3-1 on the season and will be back in action at Decatur St. Theresa Saturday.

 

At Carlyle

Carlyle claimed a 2-0 win over Altamont Thursday. Carlyle scored one goal in each half.

The Indians had 12 shots, five on goal. Goalkeeper Brenynn Abendroth had two saves.

Carlyle had seven shots, four on goal and five saves.

Altamont drops to 2-7 on the season and will host Newton Monday.
