CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School suffered a tough loss at the hands of Apollo Conference opponent Charleston 5-1 Tuesday evening.

With the victory Charleston ties with Mount Zion for the Apollo Conference title. Both teams have 3-1 records.

The Trojans' first goal came when Adam Barker sent a ball to Vance Bollinger for the score at 27:15. Barker then came back with a goal on a corner kick by Elliot Griffin and the Trojans pushed ahead 2-0 with 25:04 on the clock.

The Hearts knocked the lead down to one when Jason Pike scored on an assist from Caleb Gadberry with 8:25. But the Trojans came right back on a goal by Rhett Hallet when he sent in a shot off the crossbar at 3:45. Charleston led 3-1 at halftime.

Taylor Garrett then came out to put in two second-half goals on assists by Bollinger and Barker to put the game away. The Trojans had 23 shots, 17 on goal.

The Hearts took 11 shots, seven on goal.

In junior varsity action, Charleston was a 2-0 winner.
