T-town Advances to Title Match; St. A Falls

OLNEY -- Teutopolis High School blanked Altamont 2-0 at the Class 1A Olney Soccer Regional Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes were led by Jordan Niebrugge who scored both goals in the game. He was assisted by Kyle Blievernicht. T-town had 24 shots, 13 on goal. Seth Belford had three keeper saves.
Altamont had six shots, four on goal and Childerson had five keeper saves.
The Shoes advance to the championship match Saturday at noon against Mount Carmel.
Mount Carmel handed Effingham St. Anthony a 4-1 defeat. Fabian Naldeen had three goals and Davis Vargo one goal.
Patrick Martelli tallied the lone goal for the Bulldogs. St. Anthony finishes the season with a 7-12-2 record.
"We'd like to thank the players for dedicated efforts on and off the field," said Coach Scott Demers. "Players maintained academic eligibility, a high level of work ethic, and never quit trying and always strive to improve. We'll announce player awards and recognition in the coming days.
"Above all, remember it's just a game and how we play in the game of life will always mean more. The team wishes Luke Johnson, a kindergarten student at St. Anthony Grade School fighting Leukemia and TEAM LUKE God's blessings and all the best. We're looking forward to the school year 2021-2022 when Luke will be able to take the field and score many goals. We also wish Eddie Siemer, Teutopolis High School soccer player battling cancer, the very best."
St. Anthony seniors are Charlie Schultz, Nick Nosbisch, Eddie Jansen, Patrick Martelli, Jack Fifer, Dylan Boggs and Sean Meyer.
