Another wonderful day for soccer, and a long trek to play Breese Central," said St. Anthony Coach Eric Morales. "This is only the second year that we've had the Cougars on our schedule.

"The Cougars came to play, the first 15-20 minutes were much of the Cougars pressuring our defense. Having six good looks on frame, only to be stopped by our keeper Nick Grunloh. The game progressed very, very aggressive with many warnings through the first half.

"We finally opened up in the last 15 minutes of the first half, hammering the goal with a total of eight shots on goal. With 16:01 left in the game, Alex Deters tracked down a loose ball off a rebound to put us up 1-0 just before the half ended.

"During the second half, we came out strong and controlled 75 percent of the game taking eight shots on goal, holding Breese to two shots. With 18:30 left in the second half, James Kabbes had a tremendous throw in to find Ryan Kruger to net another goal only to seal the deal for us. We won 2-0.

"Special mention to Kyle Hartke for playing amazing defense and leading us throughout the whole game."

St. Anthony improves to 9-1 on the season and travels to Olney Thursday.

St. Anthony's junior varsity also came away with a win, beating the Cougars 2-1. Getting goals were Wade Wenthe and Mason Thomas. St. Anthony improves to 3-1.

At Effingham

Mattoon came calling and blanked Effingham 7-0. Jared Minor had 13 saves for the Hearts.

EHS is now 2-5-2 on the season and will host Salem Thursday.

At Breese

Altamont was also in the Breese area, taking on Breese Mater Dei Tuesday. Mater Dei blanked the Indians 7-0.

Mater Dei held a 5-0 lead after the first half and scored two more goals in the second half. Altamont had three shots, none on goal. Sam Childerson had 11 saves. Mater Dei had 38 shots, 20 on goal.

Mater Dei captured a 6-1 junior varsity contest. Scoring the lone goal for Altamont was Waytt Stone with an assist from Laatsch.

Altamont drops to 4-6-1 and will host Raymond Lincolnwood Thursday.
