Altamont Edges Trenton, Mattoon Blanks T-town In Soccer

TRENTON -- Altamont High School edged Trenton Wesclin 2-1 in soccer competition Monday evening to improve to 4-5-1 on the season.

Jesus Flores scored the opening goal for the Indians in the first half. Flores came back to open the second half and push Altamont ahead 2-0. Trenton Wesclin then scored to pull within 2-1.

"It was a good win for us tonight and a needed one for the week we have," said Altamont Coach Jeff Walton. "Starting tonight and traveling back down to Trenton after traveling last Thursday to Carlyle. Now tomorrow we travel back to Breese. Mater Dei is always a well-disciplined team with excellent skill level.

"Getting the win starts the week off on the right step to finish it up Thursday at home with Raymond Lincolnwood."

Altamont had 14 shots, eight on goal. Sam Childerson had six saves. Trenton Wesclin had 18 shots, seven on goal and six saves.

 

At Mattoon

Mattoon pushed its record to 6-1-1 on the season by blanking Teutopolis 4-0 Monday.

Zach Lensink had a free kick and Tanner Miller scored for the Green Wave's first goal. Martin Salas was the next up on an assist by Trey Skocy. Skocy then had a goal and Nathan Ray finished out with the scoring on an assist by Salas.

T-town had three shots on goal while Mattoon had nine shots on goal.

In the junior vasrity match, Mattoon edged the Wooden Shoes 2-1. Mattoon is now 7-1.
