Altamont High School played host to Olney and claimed a 2-1 soccer victory Saturday to improve to 2-4-1 on the season.

Christian Freezeland scored first for the Indians at the 24:00 mark in the second half after the two teams played to a 0-0 first half tie. Olney came back to knot the score at 1-1 with two minutes remaining. Jacob Crow then scored the winning goal on a header from Freezeland at 1:40.

"After allowing Olney to control the first 10 minutes of the match, we started to play," said Coach Jeff Walton. "Equaling the odds and moving them into our favor. We slowed down their attack and pressure through the midfield. Going into the half tied looked good. However, we came out flat again at the start of the second half. The heat became a factor for both teams and we started to dig into our bench.

"With 24 minutes left in the match, August Latsch got fouled in the penalty box. We were awarded a penalty kick taken by senior captain Christian Freezeland that buried in the net for our go-ahead score. We held on with the lead until Olney tied it. Taking our kickoff, it was played forward to Hunter Barns who pressed Olney's backline early after the equalizing goal winning corner kick. Freezeland took the corner and sent the ball into junior forward Jacob Crow for a diving header to score the winning goal. We had been working hard all week on corner situations, stressing clearing it and winning the ball."

Altamont had nine shots, three on goal. Sam Childerson had eight saves. Olney had 15 shots, nine on goal and one save.

Olney won the junior varsity match 7-0 and Altamont is now 2-2.
