St. Anthony Soccer Tournament Opens Play; Thursday Action at Charleston Red and Gold

The Effingham St. Anthony High School Soccer Tournament opened play with two matches Thursday.

In the opening match, Altamont edged Carlyle 1-0. Mitchell Stevenson connected on a goal with an assist from Hunter Barns.

Altamont had 21 shots, five were on goal. The Indians are now 1-1 on the season. The Indians will be back in action in the tournament Saturday at 9:45 a.m. against Mount Carmel and 1:45 p.m. against Harrisburg.

In the second match of the tourney, Salem and Mount Carmel played to a 0-0 tie.

 

At Charleston

In the Charleston Red & Gold Invitational, Teutopolis picked up both a junior varsity and a varsity victory.

T-town won the varsity contest over Newton 3-0. In the junior varsity match, the Wooden Shoes won 3-1 over Newton.

In the other contest, Mattoon blanked Centralia 2-0 in varsity action and won 2-1 in JV play.

The tourney continues today with Effingham taking on Olney at 4 p.m. for varsity action and 5:30 p.m. for the JV match, and Charleston meeting Monticello at the same times.
