EHS Plays To 0-0 Tie in Charleston Soccer Tourney

CHARLESTON -- Effingham and host Charleston played to a 0-0 tie in varsity competition as the Charleston Red and Gold Soccer Tournament opened play Wednesday.

Jared Minor had three saves for the Hearts including one point blank shot with eight minutes left in the game. Connor Griffin had one save for Charleston.

Effingham is now 1-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Red Pool. In the other match, Monticello handed Olney a 2-0 loss.

EHS returns to action Friday against Olney at 4 p.m. on Field 2 at Southeast Park.

In the junior varsity tournament, Charleston blanked the Hearts 3-0. EHS drops to 0-2 on the season and is 0-1 in pool play. The junior varsity Hearts will be back in action Friday against Olney at 5:30 p.m.

In the other JV contest, Monticello beat Olney 2-0.

Teutopolis opens play today against Newton at 4 p.m. in varsity action and 5:30 p.m. in junior varsity play. The other contests today features Mattoon against Centralia at 4 and 5:30 p.m.
