Effingham Weekend Results at Charleston Red and Gold Tournament

The Effingham Soccer Hearts had tough sledding over the weekend at the Charleston Red and Gold Tournament.

Monticello won over Effingham 2-0 in the Saturday opener. Frank Kasdorf had five saves for Effingham, but the Hearts had no shots on goal in the game.

Effingham bounced back, though, with a 3-0 win over Decatur MacArthur. Tyler Katz started the scoring assisted by Ashton Haythorne with 25:54 left in the first half. Michael Carie scored unassisted with 22:30 left in the first half. Jacob Gadberry scored on an assist from Hendrik Bolter with 14:16 left in the second half. Kasdorf had six saves, and Effingham registered seven shots on goal.

Effingham finished the tournament with a 1-2 record and is 2-2 on the season.

In the JV Tournament, Monticello defeated Effingham 4-0, although Effingham goalkeeper Jared Minor recorded 24 saves. 

Urbana then blanked Effingham 6-0. Effingham keepers had 30 saves, 24 by Minor and six by Brady Scott.

The Effingham JV squad is 0-4 on the season.
