EHS Blanks Altamont in Soccer

ALTAMONT -- Effingham High School took care of business Tuesday evening, blanking Altamont 7-0 in opening season soccer competition.
Michael Carie scored the first goal for the Hearts with an assist from Sean Zerrusen with 33:17 left in the first half. Tyler Katz then scored an unassisted goal with 25:46. Andrew Bingham finished out the scoring in the first half with an unassisted goal at 22:34.
In the second half, the Hearts reversed their first goal of the game with a Zerrusen shot, assisted by Carie. Katz then scored the second goal, also his second of the game, unassisted at 16:05. Zerrusen tallied his second goal with an assist from Jacob Gadberry. Ashton Haythorne scored with an assist from Zerrusen.
Altamont claimed the junior varsity contest 2-0.
The Hearts are back in action at the Charleston Red & Gold Tournament Thursday at 4 p.m. against Centralia.
