Oilers Slip Past Devils In Shootout
(Edmonton, Alberta) -- David Perron scored the winning goal in the shootout as the Oilers slipped past the Devils 5-4 at Rexall Place. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Andrew Ference, Perron and Taylor Hall all scored in less than an eight-minute span in the third period for Edmonton, which improved to 1-2. Jason LaBarbera made 21 saves plus stopped both shootout attempts for the victory. Patrik Elias' tally tied the game for New Jersey with 54 seconds left in regulation. Jaromir Jagr, Damien Brunner, Michael Ryder also lit the lamp for the Devils, who fell to 0-1-2. Martin Brodeur stopped 23 shots but couldn't stop either shootout attempt.
Rangers Get By Kings
(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Rangers scored once in each period on their way to a 3-1 win over the Kings at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. Brad Richards lit the lamp in the first and second periods with an assist on each from Rick Nash. Ryan McDonagh sealed the deal with a shorthanded tally in the third period as New York moved to 1-1 on the young season. Henrik Lundqvist halted 28 shots in the victory. Jake Muzzin had the lone goal for Los Angeles while Jonathan Quick gave up all three goals on 28 shots. The Kings dipped to 1-2 on the year.
Blackhawks In Action Wednesday
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Blackhawks are back on the ice Wednesday. Chicago travels to St. Louis to skate against the Blues in the first road game of the season. The 'Hawks beat Washington before falling in a shootout to Tampa Bay at home in the first week of the season. The Blues are 2-0 after victories over Nashville and Florida.
