The Effingham Athletic Department runs an Athlete of the Month program every month. Athletes are nominated by head coaches based upon the following criteria: Stats, Accomplishments, Character, Coachability, Leadership, Sportsmanship

Nominations are then sent out to all junior high coaches to vote on a winner. There is one male and one female winner each month. Winners receive a Treign Athlete of the Month shirt and get recognition via announcements and local media.

September Winners are Dagg Thompson - Baseball and Cloie Bailey -- Softball.

Dagg Thompson and Coach Rod Wiethop.

"Daag led the team in hitting around the .580 mark. He led in runs scored and was our true #1 pitcher going 3-3 with close to a 1.00 ERA. He was the difference in us going 13-6 instead of 6-13. He has a very bright future!!"

Cloie Bailey (center) is flanked by coaches Lori Koester and Morgan Wilson.

"As a seventh-grader, Cloie really stepped up and had a great season for the Mustangs. She had the highest batting average on the team (.621) and had 36 hits on the season. Cloie also had the least amount of strikeouts this season (4). Cloie played centerfield, pitched, and was at first base a little bit too. She pitched 31 innings this season and struck out 44 batters. Cloie has a bright personality and is always out there having a great time. Even when the game got tough, she would put her game face on and battle through. She has a lot of determination and grit which helps her on and off the softball field. It was a pleasure to coach Cloie this season and I can't wait to see how she succeeds in softball and life."
