Newton, T-town Anglers Do Well at IHSA Fishing Championship

CARLYLE -- Teutopolis and Newton anglers did well at the Illinois High School Association State Fishing Tournament at Carlyle Lake Saturday.

Newton's Ian Fehrenbacher, Lain Burgner, Evan Johnson and Alex Gier finished fifth out of 65 teams. The foursome totaled five fish on the first day for 10 pounds, 7 ounces. On day two, they caught five fish weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces. The total for the two days was 10 fish for 18 pounds, three ounces.

T-town's Devin Bloemer, Ross Deters, Garrett Gaddis and Dawson Hoene finished one spot behind the Newton foursome in sixth place. On day one, they caught five fishing weighing 11 pounds, three ounces. On day two, they caught four fishing weighing six pounds, nine ounces. The total was nine fish for 17 pounds, 12 ounces.

The second Wooden Shoes' foursome included Brody Thoele, Ethan Thoele, Austin Bloemer and Nolan Schumacher and they finished 16th out of 65 teams. On the first day, they caught three fishing weighing five pounds, 15 ounces. On day two, they again caught three fish, weighing eight pounds for a total of 13 pounds, 15 ounces.
