St. Anthony, EHS Swimmers Compete At Boys Sectional

Effingham St. Anthony and Effingham swimmers competed in the Class A Champaign Centennial Sectional Saturday.

First place finishers advance to the State Swim Tournament Feb. 23-24 at FMC Natatorium, Westmont along with any reaching state qualifying standards.

St. Anthony's Aidan Braunecker claimed second place in the 50 yard free with a time of 22.00, just missing the state qualifying standard of 21.74.

Braunecker also competed im the 100 yard free where he took third place with a time of 48.75.

He combined with teammates Daniel Ramos, Marcus Geen and Gabe Huebner in the 200 yard medley relay. The foursome finished ninth in 1:56.08.

Braunecker also took part in the 200 yard free relay with Geen, Ramos and Huebner and finished ninth in 1:41.88.

Geen placed sixth in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:41.80. He also competed in the 200 yard free and was 12th in 2:05.44.

Ramos competed in the 100 yard back and finished 16th in 1:09.59. He also swam in the 100 yard free and finished 20th in 59.49.

Huebner swam in the 100 yard breast and took 18th in 1:19.30. He also took part in the 50 yard free and finished 26th in 28.61.

Effingham's Brady Wilson competed in the 100 yard fly and finished 16th in 1:05.41 and the 100 yard back and finished 15th in 1:06.11.

Champaign Central won the team championship at the sectional with 233 points followed by Springfield 159, Mahomet-Seymour 148, Champaign Centennial 137.5, Urbana 112, Petersburg PORTA 54, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 30, Danville 27, Springfield Southeast 16, Charleston 14 and Champaign St. Thomas More 1.
