Athletes from the Effingham Youth Wrestling Club competed in the IKWF Dual Team Divisional on January 7 in Edwardsville.

The team consisted of Novice and Senior age division athletes, 10-14 years of age. Unlike most youth wrestling competitions, the Dual Team Divisional is based on a team score to qualify for the state series. Effingham was able to score enough team points to qualify and advance to the Dual Team State Championships on January 28. The competition will be held in Palos Heights. Athletes will compete with teams from all over the state for the championship title. This is the first time in the Effingham’s Youth Wrestling Club’s history that the team has advanced to the state competition.

Based in Effingham, the wrestling club seeks to include youth from throughout the county and neighboring counties. The club is co-ed and consists of youth ages five years through eighth-grade – prepping them for their journey into the high school wrestling program. The club has been active in the Effingham community for many years but is still a very active, growing program.

Practices are held at Effingham High School throughout the season. All coaches are volunteers and must complete training and background checks. The team is coached by

Jeremy Patnaude, Head Coach, along with several other dedicated volunteer coaches from the area.
