MADISON, Ill. – Strong performances at recent Maple Grove and Charlotte NHRA events have Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) drivers Leah Pruett and Matt Hagan anxious to hit the World Wide Technology Raceway’s drag strip this weekend (Sept. 29-Oct. 1) in the annual NHRA Midwest Nationals.

Pruett, driving the TSR Code 3 Associates/Dodge/SRT Top Fuel dragster, has recorded some impressive clockings in semifinals finishes the last two events with 3.67 and 3.70 runs during eliminations and Arizona-based racer currently ranks fourth in the NHRA “Countdown” Top Fuel points standings.

Pruett, the 11-time NHRA Top Fuel career winner, seeks her second 2023 NHRA national event victory in the NHRA Midwest Nationals after a Top Fuel victory at Norwalk, Ohio in June.

“Our car’s performance has been very strong in recent races,” said Pruett. “It gives us good information from the solid runs to know we have a responsive race car. The goal is now to translate this momentum straight into qualifying on Friday and Saturday and eliminations on Sunday. We are in the fight for the NHRA Championship right now and having a strong car is the most important.”

Hagan, the three-time NHRA Funny Car champion, captured the title at the NHRA Midwest Nationals in 2021 and was the No. 1 qualifier in 2013,2015 and 2021. He also has runner-up finishes in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2020.

In 2023, the personable racer has scored four wins this year at the Gatornationals, Winternationals, Four-Wide Nationals and Mile-High Nationals in his TSR American Rebel Dodge//SRT Hellcat. Last week at Charlotte, Hagan scored his 500th career NHRA national event round win. He’ll be one of the top contenders in the NHRA Midwest Nationals when qualifying begins Friday at 7 p.m. CDT.

“500 round wins is a huge milestone over your career,” said Hagan. “I can’t believe I’ve been able to be out here that long. I’ve been fortunate to surround myself with a good group of people the whole time and that’s why I’ve been so successful. I’m blessed to have the same group of guys now that’s been together for so long. I know what they’re capable of and I know what we can do out there on the racetrack. There’s a lot more round wins to come in the future.

“We are currently third in the NHRA Funny Car points standings, and we have four races    remaining. So, each round and win are so important in the battle for the championship. We have been strong in the last two events including the 3.82 at Charlotte last weekend. Our team is ready for the St. Louis race, and we want to put our Dodge/SRT Hellcat back in victory lane.”

Action for this weekend’s NHRA Midwest Nationals begins Friday with nitro qualifying set for 7 p.m. CDT. Saturday’s qualifying is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. CDT. Sunday’s final eliminations will take place at 11 a.m. CDT.

Television coverage of the NHRA Midwest Nationals is set for Friday at 7 p.m. EDT on Fox Sports 1 with Saturday’s qualifying rounds on Sunday at 2 p.m. EDT on Fox Sports 1. Sunday’s eliminations will be televised at 3 p.m. EDT on Fox Sports 1.

For more than 100 years, the Dodge brand has carried on the spirit of brothers John and Horace Dodge. Their influence continues today as Dodge shifts into high gear with a lineup that delivers unrivaled performance in each of the segments where they compete.

Dodge drives forward as a pure performance brand, offering SRT Hellcat versions of the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Dodge Durango, as well as an R/T performance hybrid version of the all-new Dodge Hornet, representing the brand’s first-ever electrified performance vehicle. Dodge delivers the dragstrip dominating 807-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock; the 797-horsepower Dodge Charger SRT Redeye, the most powerful and fastest mass- produced sedan in the world; and the 710-horsepower Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, the most powerful SUV ever; and best-in-class standard performance in the compact utility vehicle segment with the Dodge Hornet. Combined, these four muscle vehicles make Dodge the industry’s most powerful brand, offering more horsepower than any other American brand across its entire lineup.

In 2022, the Dodge brand ranked No. 1 in the J.D. Power APEAL Study (mass market), making it the only domestic brand ever to do so three years in a row. In 2020, Dodge was named the "#1 Brand in Initial Quality," making it the first domestic brand ever to rank No. 1 in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS).
