The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill that would ban transgender athletes from competing in girls’ or women’s teams at federally funded schools and universities.

The bill defines gender identity as a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth. The bill passed along party lines in the Republican-controlled House. It is unlikely to get through the Senate, which is controlled by Democrats, and in any case, President Joe Biden has said he would veto it if it did.
