Some area disc golfers have been competing in some pretty significant tournaments in recent weeks.
Joseph Garland finished in a 12th place tie in Open Division competition at the Greater Peoria Open over the 4th of July weekend.
Garland finished +5. On Saturday, at McNaughton Park, playing the McNaughton Longs, he finished tied for 16th place at four-under.
On Sunday, at the always-tough Northwood Black course, Garland went +9 77. His rounds were rated at 973 and 990.
Mark Jones also competed at the tournament. Jones shot -3 Saturday for a 59 and a 964 rated round.
On Sunday, Jones +19 at Northwood Black for 87, tied for 26th at the tournament, and had a 944 rated round.
37 players competed in the Open Division at the tournament.
Meanwhile, Garland, Jones and other area golfers competed in the 2022 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships. The five-day event took place at Princeton, Indiana, June 21-25. Two rounds were played at Mesker Park at Evansville, two rounds were played at Princeton Country Club, and one round was played at Pride's Creek Park.
As the title would imply, most of the top amateur disc golfers were on hand for the tournament. 335 players competed in the Advanced Division of the event.
Garland finished in a three-way tie for 33rd at the tournament, finishing -18. His rounds were 61, 55, 58, 54 and 59 for a 287 total.
Jones finished tied for 67th at -10. His rounds were 62, 58, 53, 59 and 63 for a 295 total.
Also competing from the area but not advancing to the finals were Cole Mintert of Mattoon, who tied for 130th, and Bob Feldhake of Dieterich, who tied for 272nd.
