SIUE Student-Athletes Extend Academic Streak

In the spring 2022 semester, student-athletes combined to earn a 3.364. The departmental GPA has now been higher than a 3.3 for 11 consecutive semesters.
"I am proud of our student-athletes and their continued dedication to academic excellence," SIUE Director of Athletics Tim Hall said. "The academic expectations are high within our department, and our student-athletes regularly exceed these expectations."
Women's tennis earned the department's highest team GPA for the second consecutive semester, turning in their second-highest GPA since transitioning to Division I, 3.735.
Men's golf also repeated as the men's top team and the held on to the second overall GPA at 3.558.
Men's cross country finished just behind at golf at 3.548 to claim the third spot overall. Men's track and field was third among men's programs at 3.468. Women's soccer finished fourth overall and second among women's teams at 3.547. Softball was third among women's teams with a 3.489.
The men's team average for the semester, 3.303, was the third-highest GPA since transitioning to Division I. The women's team average was 3.413. In total, 13 sports ended the semester above a 3.0.
"The work of our academic staff and the dedication of the University faculty and staff does not go unnoticed," Hall continued. "Their concern for the well-being and success of our student-athletes is instrumental to our collective success."
One quarter (58 total student-athletes) earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. Softball, women's tennis and volleyball had better than 40 percent of their student-athletes earn a 4.0 this spring term. Additionally, 46 percent of SIUE student-athletes earned Dean's List honors during the spring semester and better than 70 percent of SIUE student-athletes earned over 3.0.
The 2021-21 departmental average was over a 3.4 for the third year in a row at 3.402. The men's team average for the year was 3.312 and the women's was 3.475. For the year, a record-breaking 86 percent of SIUE student-athletes earned over a 3.0, and 85 percent of student-athletes finished the year with a cumulative GPA over 3.0.
