Area Athletes Take Home Awards In USA Clay Target League

Fifteen-hundred students are taking home awards this spring after participating in USA Clay Target League programs in 34 states nationwide.

A record-breaking 31,688 student athletes participated in the USA Clay Target League (USACTL) Spring Season this year, with athletes competing on 1,466 school-approved teams nationwide.

“The League congratulates all of the award winners from the Spring Season. These talented athletes have worked hard to earn their recognition as top clay target athletes.” said John Nelson, President of the USACTL, “The League also thanks the parents, coaches, and shooting range staff that work so hard to provide a safe and fun experience for all.”

The students’ 9-week season began in late March and concluded with a final ‘Fun Week’ in mid-May. State-level tournaments will soon be held in June, and high school athletes with top season averages will be invited to register for the USA High School Clay Target League’s National Championship held in Michigan July 6-10.

Athletes from Effingham, Altamont, Cumberland, Dieterich, Newton Stewardson-Strasburg and Teutopolis competed and recevied spring season awards.

EHS athletes competed in 1A -- Conference 5. William Kreke was first in the season average for boys while Anna Feldhake claimed first in the season average for girls.

The Hearts were No. 1 for the team with the most points. They had 1,203 in week one, 1,089 in week two and 1,031 in week three.

Cumberland's Brandon Himes placed second in 1A -- Conference 4 in season average for boys.

Emma Bowman placed second in season average for girls in the 1A -- Conference 5. Bowman represented Altamont High School.

Dieterich High School's Megan Bierman tied for first in season average for girls in 1A -- Conference 6.

The Movin' Maroons were first in 1A -- Conference 6 as a team with 1,230.5 points in week one, 1,577 points in week two and 1,622.5 points in week 3.

Newton High School's Carson Brewer finished third in the season average for boys in 1A -- Conference 6.

Stewardson-Strasburg High School's Collin Hewing was tops in three categories. He finished first in 1A -- Conference 2 for season average for boys. He also took the season average overall award and the season average for boys overall.

Aubree Antrim claimed two awards. She was third in 1A -- Conference 6 for season average for girls and was second in season average for girls in 1A -- Conference 2. Teammate Marisa Daniels was third in season average for girls.

Teutopolis High School's Kolton Tedrick received second place in season average for boys in 1A -- Conference 7.
