A trio of local disc golfers captured top honors at a benefit event at Centralia's Foundation Park Saturday.

The first annual Trash Bag Challenge was put together by Tim "Big Country" Dunahee, and was designed to raise funds for foster care.

Team Legacy...made up of Joseph Garland, Cole Mintert and Mark Jones...teamed up to capture the championship, but it wasn't easy. The local trio were tied with another group at -17 at the end of regulation. The two teams went seven extra holes on a hot Saturday afternoon before the local team posted a one-shot victory.

What was unique about the event is that Dunahee had obtained donated discs and each team picked a trash bag containing three discs and then played with those discs, not with their own. Garland, using the random putter, hit 20 of 24 putts during the round and the extra holes.

Dunahee said the event generated $1,500 to buy duffle bags for foster children headed for new homes and needing a way to transport their clothing and goods.

Another $1,100 was raised from a raffle with those proceeds going to purchase disc golf baskets for orphanages.
