Area High Schools Compete In Clay Target, Skeet Leagues

Area high schools are competing in the Spring Target and Skeet leagues.

The season got underway back in March for the Illinois State HIgh School Clay Target League. There are 65 high school teams across the state that participate in the program which is a part of the USA Clay Target League.

Weekly competition began April 17 with a final fun week in mid-May. The season culminates with tournametnts held in June and athletes with top season averages will be invited to register for the League's National Championship held in MIchigan every July.

This spring, over 31,500 student athletes are participating in league programs acros sthe country.

"Athltes of all types are able to participate in clay target shooting," said John Nelson, President of the USACTL. "The league has a 'no benchwarmers' philosophy and the league's True Team scoring system is designed so that everyone's score matters, not just the top athletes on a team."

Area teams entered are Altamont High School, Beecher City Jr/Sr High School, Brownstown Jr/Sr High School, Newton Community High School, Cumberland High School, Dieterich High School, Effingham High School, St. Anthony High School, St. Elmo Jr/Sr High School, Stewardson-Strasburg High School and Teutopolis High School.

For the 2022 Spring Trap League, 57 high school teams are assigned to 8 conferences based on team size. Area teams are in the following conferences:

July 6-10: National Championship in Mason, Michigan
