Area Wrestlers Finish Their Stay At State

CHAMPAIGN -- Four area wrestlers competed in the Illinois High School Association Individual State Finals at the State Farm Center Thursday and Friday.

Effingham High School's Jon Perry lost his opener in the 153 pound class the first day then faced Luke Christie of McNamara and fell in a 10-3 decision to exist further competition on Friday.

Cumberland had three players competing. Iysten Syfert competed in the 170 pound class and won his opener then lost Thursday. In  Friday's action, Syfert fell to Zane Pannell of Fulton by a fall in 2:32.

Colby Ryan took part in the 195 pound class. He won his opener Thursday then lost. In his match Friday, he won over Brody Cuppernell of St. Thomas by an 8-1 decision before falling to Connor Steidinger of Prairie Central with a fall in 4:55.

Cumberland's Noah Carl competed in the 285 pound class. He lost his opener Thursday. In the next round, Carl defeated Elijah Friedrichsen with a fall in 4:30. He then won over Karson Richardson of Tolono Unity with a fall in 3:08. He exited the tournament with a loss to Daniel Engel of Polo, with a fall in 2:57.
