St. A's Ciorna, Harden Advance To State Swim Meet

Effingham St. Anthony's Jules Harden, Alexandra Ciorna and Cailey Dorris competed in the Swimming & Diving Sectional at Urbana High School Saturday.

Harden captured first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.47. The senior also advanced in the 100-yard freestyle by finishing second in 52.07. First place went to Sally Ma of Urbana University in 50.87.

Ciorna, also a senior, captured first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.90.

Dorris did not advance but finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke.

Effingham and Teutopolis also had swimmers competing but none advanced.

Effingham's Julia Kinder finished 28th in the 50-yard freestyle in 32.08 while teammate Kalista Jackson was 35th in 40.11. Elle Hohenbary finished 28th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:54.85 and 35th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:35.25. Jackson was 30th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:50.50. Kinder competed in the 100-yard breaststroke and took 15th in 1:30.77.

T-town's Elise Passalacqua finished eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.52 and 14th in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.48. Hallie Stanford placed 20th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:25.27 and 25th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:12.67.

St. Anthony, with only three girls, captured seventh place as a team out of 28.

Harden and Ciorna advance to State Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13 at FMC Natatorium in Westmont.
