A 19-year-old prospect for the Nashville Predators, Luke ProkopL, came out as gay Monday, making him the first player signed to a National Hockey League contract to do so

Prokop, a third-round pick in the 2020 draft last fall, made the announcement on Twitter, saying, “It has been quite the journey to get to this point in my life, but I cannot be happier with my decision to come out.”

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman commended Prokop for “sharing his truth and for being so brave,” and the Predators said they were proud of his “courage” and will support him “unequivocally.”
