FAIRFIELD -- Five horses with Effingham County connections scored victories at the Wayne County Fair on Monday, as 10 harness races went to the post on a rain-delayed program which originally had been scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Darla (Martin) Lohman of Effingham trained and drove two winners on the card, winning the Egyptian Colt Stakes for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings by 18 lengths with Aqua's Bud in 2:20, before returning 45 minutes later to capture the ECS for freshman pacing colts with Spoken For in 2:13. The former is owned by Larry Longnecker and Lacy Longnecker-Motch, while the latter races for the Estate of Dean Debolt.

In the Egyptian Stakes for three-year-old pacers, Kandi's Fortune made it four wins in her last five starts by scoring in 2:06.1 for owners Brian and Kandi Herzog of Beecher City. Trainer Freddie Patton Jr. had the winning drive.

Owner Elizabeth Roedl of Edgewood also reached the winner's circle, as BBR Lady won the Egyptian race for three-year-old trotting fillies by six lengths in 2:15.2. Patton once again was the winning trainer-driver as well as the co-owner.

Trainer Ray Hanna of Altamont made it five locally-based winners on the card, as Pretty iris won the Illinois Harness Horsemen's Association Pace for fillies and mares age three and older in 2:07. Matt Avenatti had the winning drive.

In other action, a Jasper County-owned horse won a division of the Egyptian Colt Stakes for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings, as Hidalgo Howie led all the way for owner-trainer-driver Harold Finn Jr. and co-owner Jacqueline Ford of Newton.

Rain began falling after the tenth of 13 scheduled races, forcing the cancellation of the final three events on the program.
