Local disc golf players continue to push themselves in tough tournaments to see just how they stack up against a variety of competitors, and to see better where they need to improve.

Local players Mark Jones and Cole Mintert traveled to Lockport for a three-day tournament presented by Discmania.

The Clash at The Canyons involved 123 players in the Open Division.

Jones finished in a tie for 99th place with a 193 total, seven over par. His rounds were 64, 61 and 68, picking up eight birdies over the weekend. His best round was a one under on the second day of the competition.

Mintert said going into the competition that he didn't know how it would go in his first big tournament. He finished 25 over par for the three days, but finished with a 68 his third day, six over.

Both Jones and Mintert, as have others who've raised their sights, said the larger tournaments are an opportunity to play tough courses and meet many of the top disc golfers around.

In the meantime, there are still plenty of good tournaments in the region. Andrew "Butter" Miller and Bradley Livingston traveled to the Terre Haute area on Saturday for the FireFly Open, presented by Skybreed Discs.

Miller finished 14th in the Recreational Division, with rounds of 65 and 63 for a 14-over 128 total.

Livingston finished 11th in the Novice Division at 28-over 142 with rounds of 72 and 70.

Ben Keller competed in the Barracks and the Bunker event in Mehlville, Missouri. Keller finished 17th in the Recreational Division, going 74-69 for a +27 143 total.
