Gallent was the first coach of the Vegas Golden Knights in their inaugural 2017-18 season, when they made it to the Stanley Cup Final, losing to the Washington Capitals. Gallent was fired in January 2020.

He’s coached a total of nine NHL seasons, also with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Florida Panthers. The Rangers fired head coach David  Quinn in May.
