Tough Weekend for Area Disc Golfers

The past weekend was a tough one for area disc golfers.

Some headed north, others headed west.

Last Friday, a handful of local golfers made their way to Eureka for a flex tournament known as the Eureka Temp.

Mark Jones and Joseph Garland of Effingham played in the Advanced Division, made up of 19 players.

Jones finished fifth with a 69 for +5, while Garland finished in a three-way tie for eighth with a +12 75 score.

Cole Mintert of Mattoon played in the Intermediate Division and finished third with a +12 75, as did Hadley Majors of Effingham who finished in a tie for 13th with a +20 83.

Then, on Saturday, Jones and Garland competed in the Eureka Open Upper Divisions.

Jones finished fourth with rounds of 72 and 64 for +10 136. Garland finished tied for 15th with rounds of 70 and 71 for +15 141. 

As for the group that headed west, they traveled to Godfrey for the 2021 VanMan Discs SoIl Tour #3 presented by Dynamic Discs. The tournament was also known as the Launch at La Vista.

Alex Schimmelpfenning of Effingham competed in the Open Division and finished tied for 14th, going -4 on rounds of 58 and 54 for a 112 total.

In the Recreational Division, Noah Lohman of Effingham finished eighth with rounds of 65 and 60 for a +9 125 total, while Nathan Lohman finished tied for 12th with a +15 131 total with rounds of 64 and 67.

Sandwiched in between the Lohmans was Bob Feldhake of Dieterich, who finished 10th at +11 with rounds of 64 and 63 for a 127 total.
