Anaheim Ducks goalie Ryan Miller announced Thursday that he’s retiring at the end of the season. The Ducks will miss the playoffs, so May 8 will end his 18-year NHL career as the winningest American-born goalie in pro hockey history.

Miller shared the news at an emotional news conference. Miller also excelled in international play, named the MVP and best goaltender at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, leading the U.S. to a silver medal.
