Jones Wins at Disc Golf Tourney in Decatur

Effingham disc golfer Mark Jones posted a win at the Cody Drew Memorial Event Saturday at Nelson Park in Decatur.

Jones shot a six-under 54-48=102 total for 36 holes to edge Ethan Simmons of Moweaqua by one shot. Effingham's Joseph Garland finished at -2 with rounds of 55 and 51. Jones and Garland competed in the Advanced Division.

Local disc golfers Hadley Majors and Cole Mintert competed in the Intermediate Division, with Majors tied for eighth at +5 and Mintert 12th at +10.

Another local DG player, Ben Ruholl, finished tied for sixth in the Recreational Division at +12.

A reminder that entries are now being received for the 2020 Effingham Open, the "Battle at the Crossroads". The event is set for Saturday, October 10 at Community Park in Effingham. You can find an entry form elsewhere on the "More Sports" page here on our website.
