The Big Ten Presidents are ending fall sports which includes football in the conference this season by a 12-2 vote in a move that is related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Big Ten will reportedly be making an official announcement Tuesday.
Voting for the end of the fall season were Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Rutgers. Voting to play were Nebraska and Iowa.
The Big Ten move became the second Football Bowl Subdivision conference to cancel following the Mid-American Conference which canceled its season Saturday.
Many had concerns for their student-athletes as they try to hold down the transmission of the coronavirus with safety measures.
The other conferences in the Power Five have not announced any decisions about the upcoming season as yet.
