North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper gave the go-ahead Tuesday for NASCAR to hold the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24 without fans in attendance, unless health conditions in the state get worse.

Cooper said he and state public health officials have had discussions with NASCAR and the speedway about safety protocols for the race. NASCAR gave teams a revised schedule Monday that shows racing resuming on May 17 at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
