NASCAR driver Kyle Larson was fired Tuesday by Chip Ganassii Racing after he was dropped by nearly all sponsors for using the n-word during a live-streamed virtual race Sunday.

Ganassi called it “an emotional call,” but had little choice as it would have bankrupted his team if he’d let sponsors walk. Larson was suspended by Ganassi and NASCAR Monday and posted a video apologizing.

During the iRacing event, the half-Japanese Larson seemed to lose communication on his headset with his spotter. During a mic check, he said to the spotter, who’s white, “You can’t hear me?” followed by the n-word.
