St. A's Braunecker Headed to State Swim Meet

URBANA -- One area participant advanced to the State Swim Meet from the Urbana Sectional Saturday.

Effingham St. Anthony's Gavin Braunecker will be competing in the 100 yard backstroke. Braunecker won with a time of 52.76. Braunecker also competed in the 200 Yard IM but finished second with a time of 2:00.57.

Several area schools had athletes participating in the Urbana Sectional.

Effingham's Austin Huebner competed in the 200 Yard IM and finished fifth in 2:06.92. Huebner also took part in the 500 Yard Freestyle where he finished fourth in 5:08.74.

St. Anthony's Derek Kruger competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle where he finished 24th in 29.50. Kruger also took part in the 100 Yard Freestyle where he was 26th in 1:11.01.

Altamont had several athletes competing. The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Tyler Stuckemeyer, Will Overton, Hayden Voelker and Kolby Brewer finished 10th in 2:15.68.

Voelker took part in the 50 Yard Freestyle where he finished 23rd in 28.18. Brewer also took part in the same event where he was 25th in 29.96. Voelker tallied a 14th finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:22.90. Overton competed in the same event and took 20th in 1:51.25.

Stuckemeyer finished 14th in the 100 Yard Freestyle where he had a time of 56.19. He also competed in the 100 Yard Backstroke where he took 10th in 1:04.05.

Altamont had a 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team with members Stuckemeyer, Brewer, Overton and Voelker. The squad finished eighth in 1:57.14.

Newton's Ben Pitcher competed in two events. He placed 23rd in the 100 Yard Freestyle in 1:04.59 and 17th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:31.17.

Only the first place finishers and those reaching state qualifying standards advance to the State Meet at Evanston Twp. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24.
