Brandon Marschewski Takes First at Murdale Wrestling Invite

CARBONDALE -- Effingham High School's Brandon Marschewski captured first place in the 145 pound class at the Murdale Wrestling Invitational Saturday.

Marschewski won his opening match with a pin in 3:03. He then claimed a 6-2 decision in the second contest. He went 4-3 over his third opponent. He finished out with a 6-6 ultimate tiebreaker over Taylor of Carbondale for the championship.

Tanner Loy captured fourth place in the 195 pound class. He won with a pin in 1:06 then claimed a win by an injury default. He lost his next two matches with pins in 3:44 and 1:59.

Jarrett Jones finished seventh in the 170 pound class. He won his opening two matches with a pin in 3:54 and a 7-5 decision. He dropped 9-6 and 20-8 decisions before winning with a pin in 2:50.

The Hearts finished 12 out of 24 teams.

Cahokia won the championship with 221 followed by Belleville Althoff 190, Chatham Glenwood 158.5, Mount Zion 118.5, Carbondale 111, Olney 106.5, Bethalto Civic Memorial 98, Marion 97, Lincoln 90.5, Murphysboro 90, East St. Louis Senior 77, Effingham 67, Fairfield Community 62, West Frankfort 57, Highland 56, Harrisburg 48, Anna-Jonesboro 46, Sparta 45, Benton 43, Mount Vernon 39, Herrin 37, Carterville 29, Centralia 26 and Goreville 15.
