Friday EIU Action at Summit League Championships

Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s swimming completed the third day of action at the 2017 Summit League Championships on Friday as the Panthers combined for six top-16 finishes over the course of the day.
Steve Fishman and Matt Jacobs had a big day for the EIU men following the third day of competition at the Summit League Championships as both swimmers broke a school record each in their respective events. Fishman placed ninth overall in the 400-IM, but his time of 4:03.76 is now the top-time in school history. Jacobs finished the 100-Breast with an eighth-place finish at 56.89, but his time of 56.08 ranks first all-time in school history.
Brandon Robbins also swam top a top-16 finish in the 100-Breast as he placed 10th overall in the event at 57.01.
Brogan O’Doherty earned the best finish for the EIU men on the day as he placed fourth in the 100-Back. O’Doherty posted a time of 50.21 in the event.
The EIU women earned a top-16 finish from both Lauren Oostman and Rachel Manderscheid. Oostman posted the 12th-best time in the 100-back at 57.96, but her time of 57.32 was a new personal-best and improved her third-place time in EIU history. Manderscheid touched the wall in 14th overall in the 100-Breast at 1:07.98, but her time of 1:06.92 in the preliminary round moved her into fifth all-time at EIU.
The EIU men picked up a fifth-place finish in the 400-Medley Relay. Jennings Soccorso-McCoy, O’Doherty, Jacobs, and Robbins teamed up in the event and finished the event at 3:23.52.
The final day of competition at the Summit League Championships will take place on Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. (CST).
