Cumberland Wrestlers Advance To State

Several Cumberland High School wrestlers will be competing at the Class 1A State Tournament this week.

The Pirates' Konnir Hinz captured first place in the 145 pound division at the Vandalia Sectional last weekend. Hinz downed Jordan Koester of Pinckneyville with a 5-0 decision to take top honors.

In the 138 pound division, Michael Carpenter captured fourth place. He fell to Clayton Peterson of Shelbyville to finish fourth.

Tristan Overvig also captured fourth place. Overvig fell to Jacob Muench of Carlyle with a fall in 5:09 to finish fourth.

First through fourth place finishers advance to state tournament play this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the State Farm Center, University of Illinois in Champaign.
