EHS Wrestlers Place at Eastern Classic

TOLEDO -- Several Effingham High School wrestlers placed at the Eastern Illinois Wrestling Classic at Cumberland High School Saturday.

Zane Thilker captured second place in the 152 pound division. He had a 9-1 victory then pinned his second opponent in 3:49 before falling 3-2 in the title match.

Brandon Marschewski took third place at 145 pounds. He had an 11-1 win in the opener then fell 11-2 in the second match. In the final match he won 4-3.

Tyler Marschewski finished fifth in the 138 pound class. Marschewski lost his opener 11-1 before winning the next three matches 7-0, with a pin in 3:34 and a pin in :56.

Gage Franklin finished sixth in the 160 pound division. He was pinned in the opener in 4:56 then claimed two straight wins with a pin in 1:50 and a pin in :29. He fell in the final contest with a pin in 4:18.

The Hearts will be back in action in regionals at Herrin February 4.

In a Friday match at Charleston, the Hearts fell to the host squad 37-30.

EHS wrestlers picking up victories were Tyler Marscherwski at 138 pounds with a pin in 4:11 and Brett Hodges at 160 with a pin in 3:02. The Hearts won three matches on forfeit.
