EHS Competes in Murdale Wrestling Tourney

CARONDALE -- Effingham High School competed in the 55th Annual Murdale Wrestling Tournament Friday and Saturday and finished 13th in the 23 team meet.

Chatham Glenwood won with 23.5 points followed by Cahokia with 37.5. Carbondale's Cameron Caffey was named the Most Valuable Player pinning all four opponents in the 170 pound class.

Effingham's Griffin Paige captured first place in the 182 pound division. Paige defeated Jeremie Kragness of Marion 17-4. He then took a 6-4 decision over Mikalan Evans of Mount Zion before downing Dalton Craig of Murphysboro 21-6.

Brandon Marchewski picked up two victories to take fourth place in the 132 pound class. He opened with a win over Cody Geran of Glenwood, 5-0, then fell in a pin in 3:05 before beating Micah Conaway of Mount Zion with a pin in 3:29. He lost to finish fourth with a 12-5 decision.

Brett Hodges finished eighth in the 160 pound division. He picked up one victory with a pin in 1:46 over Rae Quan Laster of Paducah, Ky.

Braden lawrence finished eighth in the 195 pound division. Lawrence lost his opener before pinning Julian Harshbarger of Carterville in 1:44. He lost the next two.

Jarrett Jones claimed two wins in the 170 pound class. Jones defeated Grant Quinn of Mount Vernon 12-4. He lost the next two rounds before beating Alex King of Farifield with a pin in 3:22. He finished with a loss.

Tristan Rhodes finished in 10th place in the 145 pound divison. He lost the first two rounds before taking back-to-back wins over Caleb Mansker of Centralia with a pin in :51 and over C.J. Youngerman of Anna-Jonesboro with a 9-7 decision. He lost his final round.

Zane Thilker had two wins at 152 pounds. He lost the first two then pinned Jaxon Crnovich of Fairfield in 4:45 and had a 10-2 decison over Eian McIntire of Bethalto Civic Memorial.

Tyler Marchedwski had one victory in the 138 pound class with a pin in 3:47 over Ethan Evans of Sparta.
