Blues Make Qualifying Offers To Five Players

(St. Louis, MO) -- Free agency begins for the St. Louis Blues and the rest of the NHL today. The Blues announced the retention of five players Thursday.  Among those five are left wings Jaden Schwartz and Valdimir Sobotka. Schwartz finished last season with 25 goals, good for third on the team. Sobotka recorded career highs in points, goals, assists and penalty minutes with the Blues last year.


NHL Free Agency Opens

(Chicago, IL) -- NHL free agency begins this morning at 11:00 a.m. but the Blackhawks don't appear to be big players. Chicago is close to the upper limit of the 69-million-dollar salary cap. General manager Stan Bowman could pull off a trade to clear some cap space in order to acquire players.
