Visit the "Luminaries for Life" displays on Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17. This year, there will again be two displays - one on the steps of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Effingham and one at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway. Students from St. Anthony, St. Mary's and Sacred Heart Parishes created hundreds of luminaries to promote the pro-life movement on the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision. In 1973 this tragic court decision led to the legalization of abortion throughout all 9 months of pregnancy.
Today, abortion is by far the leading cause of death in our country with over 1 million per year. The luminaries will be lit and placed on the church steps as a visible memorial to the 57 million precious lives lost through abortion. They serve as a beacon of hope for the future of all the unborn. As you view the display please pray for an increased respect for life. Special thanks to the Effingham Knights of Columbus and St. Anthony Schools for funding the project. Visit the lighted displays on the evenings of January 16 & 17 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Effingham and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway. In the event of inclement weather, the next weekend will be chosen.
