ECGHS & ECCCMA Historical Lecture Series will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 7PM at the Effingham County Courthouse Museum. At this meeting will include, a brief history of Centenary United Methodist Church by Glen Bower.
For the last few years the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum has sponsored an "Historic Lecture" Series. This is a monthly presentation, hosted from the fall until the spring, focusing on a historic event or group of people in the Effingham County area. This month, Centenary United Methodist Church is honored to be the focus of that presentation.
Glen Bower will be giving a presentation about Centenary UMC and its history. He'll be focusing on where we've come from as a church and all of the major events along the road that have led us to be the pillar of the Effingham Community we are today. Also on display will be the photo collection put together by Jane Ries. It's the same photo display that was at the 180th Birthday Celebration and the Old Settlers Reunion.
Additionally, attendees are able to walk through the Old Court House and see the progress of its restoration. The second floor, where the Historic Lecture presentation will occur, is not finished, but great progress has been made in restoring it to the original 1872 appearance.
So everyone is welcome to come out and support the church this Thursday in the Old Court House building, second floor. Doors open at 6:30 pm, be sure to come early to get a good seat, and the presentation is at 7:00pm. Refreshments will be provided by Centenary.
